TransCore's experience in toll collection dates
back to the 1930’s when we were hired to
maintain the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s
communications equipment and supplied lane
equipment for the Holland Tunnel in New York. A
lot has changed over the years including the
strength of our capabilities. TransCore now
stands as the dominant system and service
provider in the toll industry. Our customers
account for more than 60% of the toll
transactions in the United States and we
maintain 65% of the lanes of toll equipment in
the United States. TransCore is truly the
leading provider of toll systems supplying AVI
technology and/or the design, integration, or
maintenance services in nearly 7400 lanes
worldwide, including 60% of the toll lanes in
the U.S.
The entire ITS industry has undergone dramatic
changes over the years, and it continues to
evolve as new technologies become available.
When TransCore entered the toll collection
field, the collection of tolls was done
manually. Today a full range of solutions is
available from manual to automatic coin machines
(ACMs) to electronic
toll collection (ETC) for traditional and
for high occupancy tolling.
Automatic coin machines (ACMs) allow a driver to
pay his toll by throwing exact change into a
basket while electronic toll collection (ETC)
enables drivers equipped with radio frequency identification (RFID)
transponders or tags (a device about the
size of a credit card) to automatically pay
tolls without stopping at a tollbooth. |
