eGo® - Continuing Our History of Innovation

TransCore unveils its innovative eGo® product family. Through a series of groundbreaking design innovations, this wireless radio frequency identification (RFID) technology overcomes adoption and cost barriers for large-scale opportunities, opens new markets for ITS applications, and promotes broader acceptance of ITS systems.

The eGo wireless communications tag is a paper-thin, sticker-like tag with technology that allows user-defined information to be read from or communicated to the tag. It requires no battery and sets a new price for RFID tags. This new technology is in stark contrast to the larger, read-only or battery-required read/write, higher-priced tags predominantly used today in electronic toll collection, access control or parking applications.

eGo Products - New Dimensions in ETC and EVR

TransCore's family of eGo radio frequency identification (RFID) products ushers in new opportunities for electronic toll collection (ETC) and makes possible the introduction of electronic vehicle registration (EVR) applications. With low-cost eGo tags and readers, ETC and new EVR applications that require high-volume tag distribution are affordable and practical. eGo offers a reliable, accurate solution that meets demands of performance and price.

Continuing our history of innovation, TransCore's eGo family of tags and readers provides a high-performance ETC solution at significantly less than the cost of traditional RFID hardware. The eGo product is distinctive because it is the first single chip passive tag that has been fully qualified to meet the rigorous performance demands for toll collection applications, including open road tolling

eGo makes possible the introduction of electronic vehicle registration applications, which enable public agencies to automatically detect and screen, via RFID, motor vehicles for compliance with federal and state registration regulations and to correspondingly automate enforcement actions and violation processing for non-compliant vehicles. For public safety officials who currently have to manually key in or call in and request motorist information, an officer can now, with RFID vehicle registration, have the same information within 1/10 of a second. This translates into improved safety levels for both the motorist and public safety officers. Emission or safety program information can be read and stored in the tag within milliseconds, in contrast to labor-intensive manual monitoring.

The new eGo windshield sticker tag brings a new price and performance combination to ETC and EVR applications. Without sacrificing range or accuracy, the low-cost, paper-thin eGo windshield sticker tag features single-chip technology at a cost substantially less than traditional RFID tags.

eGo Products - The Driving Force in mCommerce

eGo products make many of the envisioned ITS applications practical for immediate widespread deployment. This type of technology is ideal for paying for drive-through goods and services or gas without ever having to search for cash, check or charge card. eGo systems can be easily installed in gas stations, convenience stores, fast food restaurants, and other drive-through applications for enhanced customer convenience and speed.

Similar in concept to electronic toll and parking collection, the mCommerce application provides a patron an inexpensive, fast, safe and convenient way to pay for drive-through items without ever having to search for a wallet or leave the car. The technology reduces cash handling, shrinkage, and the number of customers who drive off without paying. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to collect purchasing data to better understand customers' buying preferences. This knowledge is powerful for retailers. eGo enables them to develop targeted promotions and loyalty direct marketing programs that can be delivered on a customer-specific basis, establishing ongoing relationships with previously cash-paying, anonymous customers.

Product Details

eGo Windshield Sticker Tag

The windshield sticker tag operates in the 902-928 MHz radio frequency band, and is an RF-programmable device that does not require a battery or connection to the vehicle's electrical system. It is in the form of a flexible sticker (45 x 85 x 1 mm) much like a vehicle registration sticker. The windshield sticker tag is ideal for integration into UHF- band RFID solutions requiring extended read range, multi-tag sort, read/write, user-defined memory, and low price not provided by other transportation tags. The windshield sticker tag has a 1024 bit memory capable of reading, writing and rewriting information, or permanently locking individual bytes. The flexible sticker is designed to withstand extreme temperatures, sunlight, humidity, and vibration. The tag can include a tamper-resistant option. Custom control numbers and markings may be etched on the outside of each tag.

eGo Readers

eGo readers are fully integrated, 902-928 MHz wireless communications devices. The reader easily connects to any computer and will read and write to a passing tag within milliseconds. The reader includes an RF module, digital signal processor, power supply, and antenna. Selected models are configured with separate, external antennas. The unit is supplied with a pole-mount bracket specifically designed for controlled traffic lanes.

The eGo reader generates an RF signal that is specially coded to communicate to the windshield sticker tag. The tag reflects the RF signal to convey information back to the reader. The reader passes the tag information to a local host computer for processing. Selected models are dual-protocol eGo readers with capability to read both the eGo windshield sticker tags and conventional Amtech/ATA protocol tags. All readers are designed to withstand extreme temperatures, humidity, and vibration. RS-232 with Wiegand or RS-422 with Wiegand-compatible protocol interfaces are available.
